Grouping : Order of displaying group titles

Dominique

I've defined a field as text and renamed it to "Work phase". I've created a
value list for that field as follows: WP1, WP2, WP3, etc. with descriptions
General, Engineering, Procurement, etc.

When I now group my project it will order the groups alphabeticaly by the
name in the description, which is a bit stupid... (e.g. first Engineering,
then General, then Procurement). What then is the sense of being able to
move the rows in the "Value list dialog box"?

I can of course start the description with a number again, but is there no
other way?

Hi Dominque,

Moving rows around in the Value List dialog box just controls the order
the items appear in the value list drop down. It doesn't control the
grouping order.

Sorry, as far as I know, the grouping order choice is either ascending
or descending by description if one is entered or by list value if no
description is entered. I suggest the option you found - insert a
number before the description to control the order of the grouping.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Ok, thanks anyway.

I'll have to do the same with the subgroups then (e.g. for discipline and
location fields). But it doesn't look nice because not all subgroup values
are present in every main group (Workphase) so the numbering will jump from 1
to 4 to 7 etc. Definitely something for Microsoft to work on. Works ok in
Primavera for instance.
