Hard Space in Numbering Scheme

B

Brandon

I use cross references to guide readers to other
chapters, sections, tables, figures, etc.. However, the
cross reference doesn't include a hard space between the
first word and the following number (this causes the text
to sometimes break right between then so that Chapter is
the last word on one line and 13 is the first on the next
line). If I manually enter one, it doesn't remain when
the field gets updated.

Any ideas how to keep hard spaces in figure captions and
outline numbering?

Thanks.

After you've inserted the caption, replace the space
between the label and the number with a non-breaking space
(by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR), and then update the
cross-reference fields. Does this help?
