Having problems in 2007 with a counter

In 3.1 I worked with a number field which I gave an inital value of 1 and
then when the view is display it counts the records in group etc.

I just building a space in 2007 with a counter but I keep getting a Groove
Error

Invalid access to memory location

any ideas?? every thing else works and the counter works in my old 3.1
workspaces.

I have just gone through the process of re-building the entire tool in a new
workspace created in 2007. Guest what!, it did not work. everything was fine
until I added an item and then I got the groove error.
