Header/Footer on First Page only

I am attempting to create an electronic letterhead document with a header and
footer appearing on the first page only. I have made several attempts to only
have it appear on the first page, but as I move to a second page the header
and footer appear. Is there a way to only have the header and footer appear
on the first page of a document. Thanks!

Hi, Jason,

Sure is. Go to the Layout tab of File, Page Setup and
check the box labeled 'different first page.' This
creates a separate header and footer for the first page
only of the active section.

Note that when you first do this, the existing header and
footer will seem to disappear from the first page --
don't be concerned. They've just been moved to the main
header/footer for the section. You can open the
header/footer layer and cut/paste them to the location
you want.

Keep in mind that headers and footers are section
formatting. So, if you start a new section in the
document after applying this formatting -- the new
section will then have a different first page
header/footer by default as well. You can turn this
formatting on/off for a new section just by selecting or
deselecting the 'different first page' option in File,
Page Setup, Layout. (Keep an eye on the Apply To setting
in that dialog box to make sure the formatting is applied
only to desired sections).

I don't get to check posts often, but if you need further
help, feel free to email the doc you're trying to set up.
