Headers and Footers

If you put a header or footer into your "Normal.dot", then that header will
be added by default to all new messages created on that version of Word
(assuming you create your documents directly from Normal.dot, which is the
default).

You've really got two options... you can edit the Normal.dot template, or
create a new template, and use it when you create new documents.

To edit the normal template, simply open it. File\Open, and the Normal.dot
is probably located in your C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application
Data\Microsoft\Templates folder. Load up the template, modify it however you
like, then save it. Then, next time you start Word, create a new document
and the header will be there.

Alternatively, create a new document, add the header and footer as you like,
then save that as a new template somewhere. Then, when you create new
documents, there's a way to specify which template to use to create the
document. I'm sorry, but I'm not as familiar with that path... maybe someone
else can offer a hand.

Modifying the normal.dot means that EVERYTHING will have your header and
footer, creating your own template means that you have to remember to use it
each time.

Use whichever method works for you. (Of course, one of the MVPs may have a
better solution for setting the default template).

Hope that helps,

Modifying the normal.dot means that EVERYTHING will have your header and
footer, creating your own template means that you have to remember to use it
each time.
The problem here is that EVERYTHING includes labels and envelopes, I
believe, so putting any sort of text in your Normal.dot can screw up those
functions.

So you probably want to use your own template, you may find this link
