We have a client with a a system that runs Office 97 but with Word 2000 (not
sure if Word 2000 was preinstalled and other Office 97 apps added or whether
Word 2000 was installed as an upgrade to Office 97). This used to run fine
on Windows 98, but we just upgraded them to WinXP Pro, and now they get
error messages that the files are already open (including in Word 2000).
This bug was fixed in an SP to Office 97 so it should be a simple task to
correct - right?
BUT, when trying to apply SR-1a, I get the message that it cannot upgrade
some of the applications, but it ran anyway. However, when attempting to
install SR-2b, it says I can't install it (need SR-1a first).
Next, I try to run Office 2000 SP3 (for Word), but get the message that I
have the wrong version of Office.
So I figure - well - I'll just uninstall Word 2000, apply the Office 97
service updates, and reinstall Word 2000.
And here is the real kicker - the client no longer have the install CD's for
Word 2000 - I understand that they may have been lost during a breakin a
while back. I figured we could get the license keys off of the installed
Word, and I can always come up with an MS Office 2000 install disk to
reinstall it, BUT I CAN'T USE an MS OFFICE 2000 CD to *UNINSTALL* WORD...IT
REQUIRES A WORD 2000 INSTALL CD. Or at least that is what it tells me. I
tried with an MSDN version of Office 2000 as well as a Small Business
version CD, and it accepted neither for the uninstall.
Please help!
TIA,
Tore.
