HELP! CD Drive Not Accessible

R

RichardD

I have a Dell desktop with a CD R/W drive (D:\) and a DVD R/W drive (E:\).
Two months ago, I started having a problem. When trying to access the D:\
drive, I would get the message "Drive not accessible..." When putting a CD
with known good data in the E:\ drive, opening the drive shows the CD to be
blank.
I "fixed" the problem by completely uninstalling Yahoo! Music. Both drives
worked just fine for a couple of weeks, until just a few days ago. The
problem has come back...exactly the same as before.
I did install Adobe CS3 as well as Adobe Lightroom about a week ago, and it
was shortly after I installed this software that I noticed (within a few
days) that the problem reemerged. So I removed both pieces of software, but
that did not help.
The strange thing is, if I reboot in Safe Mode, I can access both D: and E:
drives with no problems!
I've tried various things, such as clicking the "Enable CD Recording" box
on the D: drive, but that simply reverse the problems. I've tried getting
into Device Manager and changing the device transfer mode (PIO to DMA if
available and vice versa), and that doesn't seem to help.
I'm at my wit's end! If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,

D

That's OK, it's a common mistake.

Sorry about that...not sure how that happened. Hope I don't do it again.
