Help: EXCEL and WORD "Install" every launch

Every time I launch EXCEL or WORD in Office 2003 (or previously in Office
2000) on my home computer I get a long delay while it "installs components".
I do not get this problem at work, or when I uninstall the Office 2xxx
upgrades and re-install my base copy of Office 97.

The product is purchased, legal, genuine and activated, but there may be
some remnent of a bootleg copy on the system.

Any idea what might be directing the launch to install?
