Help for newbie please??

This morning I tried to type up a new document on Word within Office XP Pro, however, no characters can be typed and at the bottom left of the screen it says: "This command is not available because the document is locked for edit

I tried the Help, I tried what I know with my limited knowledge! This is my last hope!! Can someone help

Yes Graham, months ago, but haven't used it much to be honest! What could be wrong?

My first thought is that the application has not been activated.

If you are sure you have done that then see if
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290932 helps.

If you are running Norton AV, uncheck its problematic Office plug-in.
