Help needed on Duration

Hi All,

I have a requirement to calculate the duration without considering the
weekends. So if task starts on Monday with a duration on 6 days then
it should end on saturday. Please let me know where to change the
settings for the above.

Thanks for your support in advance.

Venkat.

Hello Venkat,

If you want to allow a task to be scheduled over a Satruday or Sunday,
you'll need to change the project calendar.

Assuming you are using Project 2003 or earlier:

Go to Tools > Change Working time. Select all Saturdays by clicking on
the column heading representing Saturday. Click the option "Nondefault
working time" under the "Set selected date(s) to:"

I also suggest taking a read of FAQ #5 at:

http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Venkat,
It sounds like you are on a 7 day workweek, but it isn't clear if you
are also on a 24 hour schedule (i.e. 24-7). Assuming you have a normal
work day (i.e. 8 hours) but you need a 7 day workweek, first customize
your calendar (Tools/Change Working Time) to show the 7 day workweek.
For consistency, you should also change the definition for hours per
week under Tools/Options/Calendar tab. Given these settings, the normal
duration field should show the way you want.

However..... if you do NOT have a 7 day workweek and simply want to show
elapsed duration, (your statement about the 6 day task ending on
Saturday made me think otherwise), then you can do that by customizing a
spare field with a formula. Assume you will use Task Text1 to show your
elapsed duration, then the formula would be:
Text1= DateDiff("d",[Start],[Finish])+1

Hope this helps.
