duration calculation doesn't skip non-working days

Scott

I have not had problems with this in past projects, but obviously have it now.

I want to set a duration to 10days and have it only count 'working days'
(monday through Friday) in calculating the end date and the Start date
(especially, when their is a predecessor).

ie. Task 1 ends on a Friday. I want task 2 to be linked to task 1 and be
10 days in duration. Currently task 2 starts on a Saturday. How do I get
Task 2 to start on the following work day (ie. Monday).

I want the duration of the number of days or weeks to only count working
days!!!
Please help.

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

The default behavior of project is to only count working days in
duration. The working definition is set by you in the project
calendar, so my guess is that you are using a calendar that has
Saturday as a working day.

Double check which calendar you have set as the project calendar in
Project > Project Information. If you have used the 24Hours calendar,
all days are working days. Select another calendar (usually Standard)
to reschedule the project.

Open the calendar through Tools > Change Working time, and ensure that
Monday through Friday are working days and Saturday and Sunday are
non-working days.

If you have resources assigned, ensure that the resources' base
calendars are set correctly.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Thank you. I recognize the default. This makes sense. However, for some
reason in a particular instance of a couple of tasks, they decided to set the
weekend date as 'working'. I used your suggestion and went in to verify and
dialed up the month in question and sure enough, the saturday in question was
marked as a 'working day'. I had to set it to 'non-working' in order to
eleviate the problem. This is a glitch that I can't explain why it happened
in the first place though.
Thanks for your help!

Hello Scott,

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you were able to
solve the problem -- even if you don't recall how the date got
changed.

A guess would be that if you inadvertently dragged the task to
Saturday, Project will ask if you wish to set Saturday as a working
day. If you said "yes" to the message, that's most likely how it
happened.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
