Help, pls, with corrupt .pst file

U

Uncle Vinnie

Hi.. using Outlook 2000 and XP Home.

My archive file is now corrupt. I have tried using Microsoft's utility to
fix it, no luck.

Are there any programs/ utilities I could try??? Thank you!!

ScanPST is about all there is. Have you also checked your hard drive to make
sure it's not corrupt/etc?

Hi, Vince...

Ran defrag, chkdsk, and scanpst (thanks, forgot the name when I posted!).
No luck.

I am not sure how far ScanPST runs since I walk away, only to find it unable
to repair, file unchanged....

Not the end of the world, really, but 'just in case' I need to go back to an
old email...

Nothing else I guess.. Oh well! (What back-up file?!!)

How big is the archive .pst file? If over about 1.8 gigs, it may have
passed the limit of usability and needs to be pared down.

Thanks Millie...

As soooooooon as I digested your previous email, I googled 'split pst'. and
voila! Found MS's utility, trimmed the suggested '25'.. then scanpst'd the
smaller file- worked! I didn't even wait for your reply to the size of my
file - I had a feeling you were onto something!
All is now fixed and openable!

Now I just need to create a new pst file for future, and keep 'em down under
2 gig!

Thanks!

Better to keep them under 1.6 gigs as that is where the problems can start.

Ok, will do!

I think attachments will enlarge your pst-file. You could use a tool
like [1] which extracts all attachments from your mails to windows's
file system. So you have always a small pst-file but access to your
attachments anyway.
