HELP: Publisher 2007 and HP6980dt Duplex Issue

I am using Publisher 2007. I have a 38 page document that I want to print
double sided and in color on glossy brochure paper.

I am running Windows XP SP2 with all patches to date. Its a 1.8ghz P4 with
2gig RAM and 100gb of free disk space. The printer is an HP6980dt using the
latest HP printer driver for that model with a built in duplexer and
connected to my network using the 802.11g wireless option.

The HP6980dt I own has a duplexer BUT the margin required for the bottom of
the page for the duplexer to work is too large so I cannot use the built in
duplexer.

Publisher 2007 has a duplexer wizard which I walked through to setup for my
printer.

HOWEVER -- when I go to print, instead of allowing me to manually do the
duplexing as shown with the wizard, it ALWAYS uses the duplexer of the
printer even though I have specifically turned off duplexing in the printer
driver and despite Publisher 2007 help telling me it will be manual.

Ok, so I figured I would print all the odd pages and then all the even
pages. I tried doing this but when it came time to flip my pages and print
the even pages I set all the options to print FRONT to BACK and made sure
that printer driver was setup to ALSO print FRONT to BACK. Arrgh!!!
publisher STILL printed BACK to FRONT instead

Ok, those of you with this printer may now be saying, set Publisher 2007 to
single sided and let the HP printer driver do the work. Here is the
problem, there is a bug in the HP printer driver which I cannot get HP to
acknowledge even though I can repro the error (I am so frustrated with HP
Tech Support that I want to throw printer out the window). Because my
publication generates a 70mb+ print spool file the HP printer file has a
problem with a file this large and asking it to manually duplex. It will
print all the odd pages correctly, it then pops up the dialog telling me to
flip my pages, but then 9 times out of 10, it starts to send the data to
printer and then it magically deletes the print job and quits!

HELP! How do I manually print double-sided using Publisher 2007 and HP6980dt
printer!!

Thanks

I know how frustrating the print is in Publisher 2007.

Open your publication, save as...with a new name. Delete all the odd pages,
print. Open the newly saved publication, delete the even pages, restack your
pages and print.

I know it is a sorry way to do this, but it is the best I can come up with.

Mary,

Thanks for the reply. I tried your suggestion and that works.

Hopefully this is addressed in some way in the future.

In the meantime I am going to try and automate your suggestion because I am
going to have to do it often.

Thank you

Thanks again for the information.

I looked at those sites. The only printer driver I have is the one for the
HP 6980dt. And, I have a clean install of XP.

The second URL had no info for my printer.

I know the issue is with the HP driver and there is no newer update
available
