HELP!! When I type the letter "y"

When I type the letter "y" my cursor moves to an earlier point in the text.
Why is this?

I suspect a wayward key binding - right click a toolbar, sel;ect
customize and flip over to the keyboard shortcuts and see what is
assigned to y. Easiest way is to suggest it as new shortcut key for a
function, and see what it is already assigned to.
