Help with Office 2000

I had virus problems on a workstation of a co-worker, so we ordered them a
new computer and now I am trying to salvage the old station which runs
windows 2000 professional with office 2000. I did have the original windows
operating system CD, so I reinstalled windows. The problem is that I can't
find the Office software CD's. All of the software for offcie is still on
the computer, but I can't access it because it says that the software was not
installed for the current user and that I must run setup (I assume from the
CD) again. This office software is legally and legitimately on this machine
and I can't access it...is there any way to regain access to it without the
original CD's?

If Windows or Office came preinstalled on the old system, then it is *not*
legal to put them on another. If you purchased Windows or Office as a full
retail version then it *is* legal to install it on another computer. You
agreed to this when you clicked on the "I Agree" button way back when.

That having been said, if you don't have the disks, you are up a famous
creek without the proverbial paddles. Office 2000 is no longer being sold
nor is it supported by Microsoft. You might as well be ready to spend a few
more dollars on a newer version. And after it's installed - please make sure
you keep the product key with the disks and put them in a safe place.

JoAnn,

Just to be clear....I am working on the original system that the software
(Windows 2000 Pro. and Office) came installed on. I am not trying to install
it on any other system...so it is in fact legal...

That being said...it seems absurd to me that the software is currently
installed on the *original* machine that it came on and I can't access it
because of a "user profile issue"...

you install Office 2000

You are probably going to have to find your Offices disk(s).

If you reinstalled Windows as you say, and there are some files that
were left on the drive from the previous installation of Office, that is
all you have, a bunch of office files. You no longer have an
installation. You NEED the cd's to "INSTALL" so all the registry entries
are in place. Nothing absurd about a trashed install not working.
