I am trying to find a script that I can work into my front page web site, I
work on a 19" monitor so when I leave my site looks good, but when I use my
little monitor wording and pictures seem jumbled and moved. IS there a script
I can put in place so that the webpage loads to the size of the monitors?

Rediect me to a place please?!?!?!?! Many thanks,
TN

It's not monitor size that is the issue, it is screen resolution /
window size.

One method is to place the content of the pages in a fixed width table,
instead of a table set at a percentage.

Most people who use fixed width tables make them 760 pixels wide and
then center them.

I have, and it's an excellent article.
However, considering how I "read or interpreted " the OP's "experience level"
I answered with what I thought was the simplest solution to fix the immediate problem.

You'd be amazed at the percentage of people who have no clue as to monitor:
sizes
resolution settings
color depth
etc, etc.

Hi -
Thanks, I think the article is well placed, but it doesn't suit my immediate

A monitor has color depth?

Yes, it's more or less one electron deep. The Heisenburg uncertainty
principle prevents me from being more specific.

It's exactly relevant. The point is that you cannot know what size viewport
your users have set until after the page has been loaded by the client
browser. So - pick a width and go with it. If you want to support 800x600
users without causing scrollbars, then you cannot go wider than 760px. If
you want to support 1024x768 users, then you cannot go wider than about
980px. Just remember to account for browser chrome when you pick your
width.

Yah but since you can't observe a system without effecting it, you'd never
know if your monitor was displaying anything at all, might as well turn it
off and call it a day.

I can't see it from here so it doesn't exist.
I'd have to turn on VQT - Virtual Quantum Tunneling, which have never worked
on my machine anyway.

I don't think anybody has stated this yet in this thread: there isn't any
script that makes a web site automatically adjust to different
resolutions/window sizes. It's not possible and it doesn't exist; that's why
we're giving you these other answers.

If you remember having heard something about a script for this purpose, it
was probably a script which detects the monitor resolution and redirects the
user to a page supposedly designed for that resolution. These do exist, but
they are about the worst possible solution to the problem, because (1)
monitor resolution doesn't determine window size, and (2) who wants to build
and maintain two or three complete separate web sites with the same content?

If you're looking for a clear, brief answer to your problem, Steve Easton's
first post in this thread has got one.
