Highlighting sections of screen prints

I am compling a manual and including screen prints in the word document as
examples. Is there a way to highlight portions of these pictures? My screen
shots have many fields and I'd like to call attention to the field that the
user would be working with. Thanks!

You can use a photo editing program (or even something as simple as MS
Paint) to edit such images. If you will be using screen captures very often,
though, I highly recommend SnagIt (www.techsmith.com), a dedicated screen
capture program that allows you to select a wide variety of portions of the
screen (window, active window, region, object, menu, scrolling menu, etc.)
and save it in any of a large number of file formats. SnagIt's editing tools
make it easy to add arrows, callouts, shading, and anything else you like.

Suzanne is quite right about the advantages of SnagIt (and others) but there
is a more immediate option which may fill the bill, especially if this is a
'one-time' thing.

You can create AutoShapes filled/bordered with color of your choice, use the
Format AutoShape dialog to change the transparency & stack the shape on top
of the appropriate area of your screen shot. Once arranged you can then
select the objects & Group them to keep them positioned together.

jjacob,
Have you tried placing a hollow rectangle (line color only, no fill) as
a floating graphic over the screenshot?

Or to ensure you see the rectangles in the screenshot even in Normal
view, create a blank inline picture, place the screenshot in the
picture and then a have a hollow rectangle placed over the part of the
screenshot you are trying to highlight. Make sure you use the crop
button to eliminate any extra space in the graphic before you close it.
I use this method when placing callouts also.

Considering I don't know what version of Word you are using, these
steps may be different.
