hit counter won't reset to number

I am trying to reset my hit counter to a certain number,
but it always goes back to the number one in the web - i
got fed up with it and took it out. Any info on this?

There's a file that will have the exact same name as the file the hit
counter is included in, but ends in a .cnt extension. This is the count for
the hit counter. You can modify this count to whatever you like. It's best
to do this with the counter file on the live server and you can access the
live web by using File | Open Web and entering the URL you normally publish
to.
