Hit Counters

I have inserted a hit counter into my home page. It did
not work when I viewed it in the browser, it only shows
[Hit Counter]. I'm sure I've done this correctly. When
I view the HTML codes the hit counter line of codes is in
light grey where it should be in black. Why is this not
working? Is there a problem with the code?

How are you testing, your local machine or on the live site?

The hit counter only works when view via http and published to a server that
has the FP extensions via FP http mode.
