Hit CTRL-P and Outlook marks message as unread

Hello,
Currently I am experiencing a problem with Outlook, that I beleive I did not
have in the past. I have my messages in my Inbox all marked as unread. I
have my preview pane set to my right hand side. When I highlight a message
to see it in the Preview pane and then move on to the next message the
original message stays as unread. This is okay. The issue lies when I
highlight the message and then try to print the message by hitting Ctrl-P. As
soon as the printin process has completed the messages becomes unread.

I need the message to stay unread even though I hit Ctrl-P.

Please help.

You means it marks it as read? Otherwise your question does not make much
sense ;-)
No, you cannot change this.

Yes...Thank you Roady. I meant that it marls it as read. You said this can
not be changed, why is that. Can I have an article or something to go by.
This is for a very fastidious boss.

Don't know of any article; it's just how it works. When you print a message,
it will be marked as read (since it is opened, printed and then closed).
Aside from the technical background, I guess it also comes with the
assumption that when you print it, you do this in order to read it. You can
of course mark it as unread again after printing.

Thank you Roady and thank you Diane for the information.

You'll need to mark it unread - when you print, the message is opened and
opened = read. Ctrl+U is the shortcut to mark Unread.

I can think of two ways that you could do this - you could open a new email - drag and drop the unread email into the new email - which makes a copy - then open the copy - print - close without saving the draft - and original is unaffected.

Or perhaps better - manually or via a rule - copy any or all new emails to a folder called something like "To Be Printed" - print from there then delete - maybe could even setup a rule to auto print messages that hit that folder (might have to set a flag on the copy to do that.

actually in a test I just did - a rule that prints the email does not mark it as read - at least on Outlook 2007

Did you not notice the date of the original post? Jan 2010? You really
think they'll be back to read your reply?
