horizontal line at end of page - most annoying thing ever

I've always used the "---" thing to make a horizontal line in Word. It looks
really nice. Too bad it's buggy, ever since Word 2000.

Say I have it at the beginning of page 2. If I add/remove things at the end
of page 1, it will randomly attach itself to the end of page 1 as well, and
become unremovable.

Anyone know how to fix this?

To clear the borders on page 1: Select all the text. In the Borders and
Shading dialog box, click the Borders tab. Click the "None" option, make
sure that "Apply to" is set to "Paragraph," and then click OK.

Note that instead of having Word insert a border automatically, you can
create a paragraph style that includes border formatting, and apply it to
the relevant paragraph(s).

If you need specific instructions, tell us your version of Word.

If you REALLY desire a line at the bottom of every page, create it in the
Footer and not in the text area. That will ensure that it is always at the
bottom of the page and that they line up on every page. It is quite normal
procedure to have a line across the page at the top of each Footer.
