The Group field on the Resource Sheet is used primarily for filtering
and sorting of group resources but not for assigning. The best way to
set up a resource group is to enter the group name in the Resource Name
field on the Resource Sheet. Then enter the number of members in that
group in the Max Units field. For example, let's say you have a resource
group called "design engineers". There are 5 people in that group. For
that group resource, enter 500% in the Max Units field. That means you
can assign up to 5 engineers to any given task in the schedule and not
run into an overallocation issue.
