How can I import an Appleworks doc in Office 2003?

I'm unable to transfer/read docs from Appleworks 6 to Microsoft Office Word
2003. I've never had a problem with earlier versions of Word, but it won't
read the files. I'd prefer not having to save all my docs as text only and
would appreciate any solutions.
