How can I play sound files more than once?

G

GBCVette

I am embedding five wav files on a slide. I would like to be able to click
on each one to repeat the file in case the audience wants to hear it again.
Once I have clicked on an icon to play a file, if I go back and click it
again, it won't play. The only way I seem to be able to get it to play is to
completely close PowerPoint.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance. You guys are great!

This would be a situation where I would hyperlink to the audio file instead
of inserting it in PPT.

The situation occurs if I hyperlink it as well.

If you are using PPT 2002 or later, you can use triggers to do this. After
you set up the animation to run the music, right click the animation and
select "Timing". On the window that comes up, click the Triggers button.
Change to "start effect on click of" and choose the icon from the drop down
list. The music will now play every time the icon is clicked. (You will need
to repeat this process for each of the five WAV files.)

IF you want more information on triggering animations, check out this
article from my site:

Kathy,
Thanks for your feedback but that didn't work. The triggers are already
shown exactly as you described. I tried clearing them and doing it all over
again but no luck.

Any other ideas?

I just created a little sample file that works fine. Using PPT 2003.

I wonder if the trigger settings are the issue. Here's what I did.

Insert/Movies and Sounds/Sounds from File. Chose "when clicked" when the
dialog box popped up asking how I wanted the sound to play.

That's it. The sounds play no matter how many times I click them when I'm
sitting on the slide, and if I go to the next slide and come back to this
one, they play again when I click them again.

So I tried something else -- I added three rectangles to the slide and
numbered them 1, 2 and 3. Then I changed the trigger for each of the sound
files. I double-clicked the sound file in the custom animation task pane,
chose the Timing tab, and changed the trigger for the first sound to
rectangle one, the trigger for sound 2 to rectangle 2, and the trigger for
sound 3 to rectangle 3. The sounds all play as expected when I clicked the
respective rectangles, and they played when I clicked them again. And if I
moved to the next slide then came back to the sound slide, they played again
when I clicked the respective rectangles.

Maybe try reinserting your sounds and choosing "when clicked" when prompted.

Echo, Kathy and Austin,
Thanks so much for your suggestions. Unfortunately none of them work. I am
beginning to wonder if I have a problem with my PPT installation. Thanks so
much for your help though. I really appreciate it.

How big are the file and the sound files? Could you zip them together and
shoot them to me? I would love to see what is going on. Don't post it here.
instead, email it to me (unknot the address to find the real me). Put a note
in there reminding me which problem I am looking at.

Just to close the loop....
GBCVette sent me one of the sound files and it turned out that the files
themselves are the problem. When I inserted them here, I couldn't get them
to work consistently either. So, I PFCMedia'ed them and it worked fine. He
is having the group who created the sound files re-create them for him.
