I think Jezebel was ragging you for sending an empty message. Remove the
border as follows:

1. Right-click on the edge of the text box and choose Format Text Box.

2. On the Colors and Lines tab, choose No Line.

Suzanne,
Actually, that didn't work. It is not a border, but the text box itself.
It disappears when I click outside the box, but reappears if I click inside
it. Any other thoughts? Many thanks.

There is no way to remove this. Whenever you click on any AutoShape, you
will see an outline and handles. Otherwise, you wouldn't know where it was.
The outline will not print. If you see a line when the box is *not*
selected, you can clear the check box for "Text boundaries" on the View tab
of Tools | Options, but this affects margins, columns, etc., and not just
text boxes. Personally, I would find it very difficult to operate without
text boundaries displayed--especially in the case of text boxes.
