How can I see the object fill?

I am working with Microscoft Office 2003 with Windows XP Professional.
When I am in Word, I place a drawing object on a blank document; I then
select format object-then change the fill color and/or line color. If I print
to the image writer or my printer the color is fine. HOWEVER I can see no
color no my screen.

I am certain this is a SIMPLE fix, but have worked well over 20 hours to fix
it and unable to find a soultion-including spending 2 hours via phone with
and "expert" (NOT).

ANY ideas?

Click on Start | Control Panel | Accessibility Options | Display
| uncheck the "Use high contrast" box | OK.
