How can I shrink down a word file that contains pictures for emai.

I created a word document and then inserted 2 Jpg pictures. Each picture was
shrunk down to around 200kb each with 96dpi. However, when I add these
pictures, my documents becomes between 18000 - 23000kb. I would like to email
this document but I am not sure what I am doing wrong or what I can do to
reduce the size of my file.

What version of Word are you using, what email app and
how are you inserting the pictures?
