Hi,
I have a Vista laptop that needs to go in for service and want to use my XP
desktop to read my messages until it is fixed. Both systems have Office 2007
installed.
I can copy the .PST file over to my XP desktop no problem. I can export and
import my rules no problem. However, it appears I have to manually recreate
all 20 odd POP email accounts I track using Outlook.
Things I have tried:
- Use the file settings xfer tool - Apparently only goes from XP to Vista.
The XP version can't read Vista transfer files (at least it tells me it can't
find any xfer files.)
- There does not appear to be a "export accounts" option (there used to be
in 2003 as I recall.)
- I have considered writing a program to open Outlook using OLE
(CreateObject....) to read all the settings, save them, and then create the
accounts that way. But I have to believe this is either more difficult than
it appears or that someone has already written such a beast (please tell me
how to find it if so.)
- Exporting the Outlook section of the registry. While this should work,
without proper guidance, I am concerned that MS stores data in multiple
locations and just exporting the ones that appear to be what I need may not
do the trick. And the registry entries may be set up differently in Vista
than in XP.
Any ideas on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
