teejay,

Have you thought about drawing a rectangle autoshape behind each word?

You can then set each one up with a "custom animation" to appear (or wipe)
automatically (with previous).

You will probably need to duplicate the text in a separate textbox and place
it directly over the other word, change the font color to get the highlight
you want, then animate it in whenever you want.

Yes, this is the technique I use.

But you'll wnat to note that if you're using PPT 2002/2003, the words in the
individual textboxes may not exactly align over the text in the original
textbox. It's PPT display trying to be helpful, so the spacing between the
letters on the single words/phrases won't *exactly* match the spacing when
that same word is used in a larger block of text.

This one bit me big time last year.

So you may have to design around this "feature," depending on the type of
animation you want to do. You might experiment with duplicating and
animating in the entire textbox to cover the original full textbox. Of
course, you'd recolor (manually) the words in it that you need highlighted.
