How do I archive completed projects?

R

Robert

Hello,
i'm trying to adapt the ProjectExperts FAQ from 2003 to 2007 SP2:
http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/ArchiveCompletedProjects.aspx
because I prefer that process than the use of the Archive db.
It works fine in the PWA views: the Completed project are not displayed.
But in Project Pro, while doing File | Open, some of them are still
displayed and we can open them!
Why? What could be the cause of this abnormality?
NB : For some projects, after setting the custom "Status" field in PWA, I
published the project from PWA. Is it a good practice?
Thanks

Hi Robert,

The simple answer is that the file/open dialogue box will display all
projects that you have the right to open, regardless of the status of any
enterprise custom fields. If you want to keep the projects within the
drafts/published DBs, then the best way is to create an Archive Category and
move the projects into there. Associate that category with your PM group,
and disable open for those projects... Before you do that, make sure you are
not a member of the PM group :).

You are viewing projects that are saved in your Local Project Cache. You
will need to delete them from the Local Project Cache using Tools - Local
Project Cache - Cleanup Cache. From that point forward, you will not see
the projects in the Open dialog, even if you select the option to show all
of the projects in Project Server. Hope this helps.
