How do I cancel print when pressing escape and double clicking on print
doesn't work?

Go to Start > Settings > Printers and select your printer's name. In
the dialog, select the document, right-click, and select Cancel.

When you tell Word to print a document, it quickly packages up all the
printer instructions and puts them into a file on the hard disk so you
can go back to editing. As soon as the little printer icon in Word's
status bar disappears, that job is done and Word no longer has any
control over the printing. Control has then passed to a separate
'spooler' program that feeds the file to the printer -- that's what
you talk to through the dialog.

I've seen some jobs that refuse to die. In that case, the ultimate
remedy is to turn off the printer, or at least remove all the paper
from the input tray. In really bad cases, it may take a reboot to
purge the print job from the spooler. And a network-connected printer
is a whole other story.
