How do I change a tiff background from black to white?

I am importing a tiff image that is white background, black lines into Word
2003, but it is coming in as black background, white lines. I have looked
every where and cannot find how to fix it. Is there a setting I need to
change or do I need to fix the tiff image? Help!!
