How do I change the owner of a Task?

I have tasks that I created and deleted the Owner name becasue I planned to
assign them to others. It turns out that I want to be the owner though so I
want to change the name back to my name. When I try to type my name in the
Owner field in task list view, however, I receive the following error: You
must be in a public folder to change the Owner field of a task. The original
owner will be restored. To assign the task, right-click the task, and then
click Assign Task.

Right now the Owner name is blank.

Hi Judy,

I have the tasks in a separate task folder that I want to share with some
teammates (the sharing is another issue!). I deleted the owner name while in
the current view of 'By Person Responsible'. I clicked inside the Owner
field to edit and just deleted the name. I received a dialog stating the
name couldn't change, but it did go ahead an remove it anyway.

I've actually moved the tasks to my standard Tasks folder. So they are
sitting in the default Tasks folder that is created with my account.

Do you get an error message when you try to assign them to yourself? Use
the Assign Task button and see what happens. If it works, you'll be able to
send them to yourself one at a time and they will be yours again.

A weird work-around would be to Assign them to another user and them have
them re-assign them to you.

Yeah I did get an error message stating that I can't assign to myself, but I
will do what you suggested - assign it to someone else and have them assign
to me or just re-create the task.

Thanks for your help!
