How do I change the undo limit in Publisher?

I see. Not very convenient, is it?
You would think that if an entry-level graphic software like Paint Shop
would allow unlimited "undos" then something like Publisher 2007 should have
it with no questions asked!!

Thanks for the reply Don.

Once a publication is saved, you cannot undo unless you edit anew. How many
undo's do you want? I just now tested the undo option in 2007 and managed 20
before I gave up.

Thank you Mary and Charles for the posts.

I really enjoy using Publisher and have wanted it for a very long time after
using word for publishing/creating materials. When I finally got the software
about 6 months ago I was very happy with the product. It is really easy to
get around and to do a lot of neat things with. My editing and layouts have
improved 10 fold since I got it and I can produce them much faster than I
could with word.

The few questions I have on these forums are ones that I can't find the
answer to for myself. They are not gripes at Publisher. On the contrary,
knowing the answer to these questions simply makes my work easier when using
Publisher.

And I might add that I find the people on these forums very prompt,
knowledgeable and very helpful and they seem to enjoy using the product as
much as I do.

To clarify my post ....

Don and Mary,

The maximum undos is 20. I guess the fact which was bugging me was that
after I had saved I couldn't backtrack past the saved points to compare any
changes should I need to.

Charles,

As far as the memory issues, you could allow a feature for unlimited undos
where you could even undo past your previous save point (right back to the
beginning of the editing session even) and keep this feature open until you
actually close the session. That was my comparison to Paint shop.

I thought that feature would have been nice to include in a Publishing
software.

Anyway, just a little something that was on my mind. lol!

Many thanks again,

Troy Filipek

If you suspect you are going down a path that may or may not be what you
want, do a Save As and change the name of the file. Make your 20+ changes.
If you don't like them, you always have the original to fall back on. If you
do like the results, do a Save As and name it the original name again.

Troy, I didn't say 20 was the maximum undo's, I don't know what the number is, I
only meant when I was up to 20 I quit doing stuff that would go beyond the 20.
Corel will allow undo's after the save.

Hi JoAnne,

Thanks for the "save as" tip. That's good editing advice. There have been
times when I wished I had done just that and because I didn't, I ended up
frustrated and had to start all over again.

Anyhoo ... I've accepted the fact that my undos are limited and will deal
with it but I wonder if Quark Express or other DPS (more expensive ones) have
unlimited undos per session, if only for convenience.

Perhaps Publisher will include it in an update or in a future version of the
software.

BTW, your dummies book for Publisher 2007 arrive on my desk here in Japan
just 2 days ago (Amazon Japan). I bought it to help me iron out styles and
font scheme usage and a few other tid-bits. Good stuff!

Many thanks for the advice.

Hi Mary,

The maximum undos (for the record) IS twenty, which is what I meant in my
post.

And I believe Paint Shop pro, the software I was referring to in my original
post, as swallowed up by Corel a few years ago, and it sounds like they've
kept the unlimited undo function.

Thanks for chiming in. You helped me a while back as well with a previous
post.

Thanks again,

Troy Filipek
