How do i change the work week from 8hrs a day to 40hrs a week?

In Microsoft Project it is set up so that each day is an 8hr. work day and
the week then totals to 40hrs. I was wondering if there was a way to change
it so that it just recognizes the whole 40hrs as a total and not divided on a
daily basis. For example if someone works for 10 hours a day and takes off
friday, is there any way to change it so that Microsoft Project doesnt see
the 10 hours a day as a full day and 2 hours over time?

See if this works, 'tools'...'options'....'calendar' then change the hours
per day from 8 to 0 and see if that works. (while leaving the work week at
40 hours) I haven't tested it to see if it works the way you want but
perhaps it is what you are looking for.

Project won't see the 10 hour day as having 2 hours of overtime. Overtime is
only taken into account if you explicity state that the 2 hours is overtime
by showing the overtime fields.

You can have as many definitions as you need for your organization. For
example, I used to work in a company where some people worked 40 hours weeks
with 4 10-hour days while others worked 40 hour weeks with 5 8-hour days.
Just use Tools, ChangeWorkingTime to create as many different calendars as
you need to describe the various shift patterns you have. Pick one that is
perhaps the most common and use it as the Project Calendar.
