Hi DDD etc.,
If I understand correctly what you are seeking I think you may have a
couple of options.
First, you can display a Project Summary Task. This will display line
zero in the project and show a summary task which spans the entire
project. As the project expands or contracts, the length of the Project
Summary task will also expand or contract. The Project Summary Task can
be displayed through Tools > Options, click the View tab and enable
(check) the Show project summary task option.
The other option is to create a Hammock task where the start date of the
task is linked to the start date of the earliest milestone and the
finish is linked to the finish date of the latest subtask. The hammock
task will not be a summary in the MS Project sense (it will not have
subtasks), but it will dynamically change with changes in the dates.
See FAQ #19 "Hammock Tasks" at:
http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm
The only other option I can see is to restructure the plan and place all
of your milestone tasks under a single summary task. This would be my
least favorite option as it requires a re-working of the plan.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
