How do I delete a border that keeps appearing

I put a break line in on a word document. It auto completed to a 1.5 pt line.
Now I cannot seem to delete it, furthermore, other break lines have started
to appear throughout the document. I have tried using the format menu, it
shows the line, but doesn't clear when I press the 'None' setting.
