How do I devote time 2 days to a task, spread over 3 weeks?

Bob

I work on a project with lots of overlapping tasks - it's really becoming
hard to show the timeline (duration) and have the tasks still be meaningful.
Let's say it takes 8 days to write the report. I'm not spending 8 days full
time on it, but am spending 8 days worth of time over 20 calendar days. How
could I show this?

Hi Bob,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

You may be mixing up Duration and Work. Duration is the working time
between Start and Finish. So you want a 20 calendar days - this equates to,
say, 3 working weeks or 15 working days (depending on when you start
via-a-vis the weekend). Enter the Duration as 15 days, Now, Window/Split
the screen. Select the task in the top pane and in the bottom pane change
the Task Type to Fixed Duration and then OK to set up that mode. Now enter
the Resource Name in the bottom pane with 40 hours of Work (assuming an 8
hour day), then OK that.
