how do i display & pick from multiple resources

I'm trying to establish resources to include multiple choice based on
specific suppliers. The "Assign Resources" box only displays the Resource
Name; how can I add another field as a discriminator?

On the resource sheet, assign resources to specific groups such as "Software
Developers", "Supplier1", "Supplier2", "Accounting", etc.

When assigning the resources to tasks, use the Assign Resources icon from
the toolbar. It looks like two people near each other.

When the dialog box opens, there is a + sign near "Resource list options",
click that. Select teh top filter (it says "All Resources"). The drop down
will let you select different options, select "Group..." Another dialog box
opens allowing you to specify the group.

You can get more adanced if you select teh "More Filters..." button.

Jim,

Thanks very much. The "Group" option works, but I was hoping to be able to
add columns to the Resources drop-down list.

For example, I have a choice of multiple suppliers -- with corresponding
costs -- for each of about 100 positions. It would be useful to be able to
see the resources grouped by position, cost and supplier to be able to make
choices when assigning. I figured out a way to cheat it, but was looking for
the "right" way.

Best regards,
Debbie Harvey

Did you try some type of sort on the resource sheet in the order you wanted?
I haven't put any time on it, but it looks like the Assign Resources dialog
takes the resource sheet and sorts it alphabetically by name and then
presents that to the user in the dialog box.

This implies to me there is some way to do it because my test file
deliberately created the resources not alphabetically. However, if that
property is not exposed to the API or a setting withing MS Project, then
we're out of luck. I vaguely remember Rod talking about this issue and
saying the property was not available in VBA.

I poked around a little in the Object Browser for VBA and didn't see
anything. That means someone else will post immmediately with the correct
solution? :)

Jim,

That's the way I' cheating the system -- I created the resource list in
Excel in the order I want to see them. Then I concatenated the job title,
supplier and location into a "Resource Name" field. Finally, I copied the
entire list into the Project resuorce sheet.

The only prob is this approach makes the data in the field pretty long, and
the dialog box seems to be a fixed size, so I can't see the entire data
string...

I'm quite the rookie with Project, so am maybe being too hopeful about some
of the available functions. Thanks for the support, and if any one else has
an idea I'd really appreciate it.

Have a good weekend!
