How do I get a word count in a PowerPoint 2003 presentation?

Since PowerPoint doesn't have a word count feature on its Tools menu, does
anyone know of a workaround?

Open the file in PowerPoint and go to File > Properties > Statistics. You'll
find the word count. Is that what you want?

There is a word count in PowerPoint, but it is listed in the presentation
properties (under the file pulldown menu).

However, there are many places in a presentation where words can hide. A
picture of a word is not a word, so a picture of a newspaper headline will
not count as words to the computer, but will to us. Word art, comments,
tags, code and controls that use text are also not counted. Text that is
off the visible edges of the slides is counted, but may not appear in the
presentation.

Altogether, it is a rather fuzzy number.
