How do I get ASP working and How do I test it once I get it working

Barry G. Sumpter

Hi all,
I'm sure I've gone thru this 3 days of searching and setting up and testing
before .

But can't seem to find the reference.

I thought it had someting to do with IIS and localhost and iuser...

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Barry G. Sumpter

Sorry should have written...

Using FrontPage 2003 on Windows XP.
Have IIS from Windows XP installed.
And FP 2000 Server Entension installed.

IE6 with 'localhost' firing c:\wwwroot\index.htm properly.

Thanks again,

#1- Are you publishing to the localhost, or just saving the
files?
#2- Are you accessing the page by http://localhost or
http://127.0.0.1 or are you just going to
c:\wwwroot\index.htm?

Mike

Have you actually created a web in FrontPage and are you creating and
managing your pages there?

Have you actually created a web in FrontPage - Yes

are you creating and managing your pages there - Yes

All works well on my webhost
but can't test ASP pages in design on my localhost

thanks,
baz

PS As I recall there is a support in IIS / PWS describing how to properly
setup.
It was where I type localhost into the address of ie6 but that just shows a
test page now.

Anyone have a hyperlink to this page on the web?

You need to open the FP site under the FP SE and IIS
File open server based site http://localhost/
(not a disk based web C:\Inetpub\wwwroot)
and run the file test.asp from there

Hi Stefan,

You probably missed this post:

....
And attempting access via http://localhost/test.asp
....

Not sure what you mean by "not disk based".
Other than incorrectly (me) attempting to execute an *.asp file
by double-clicking on it
as if it were a properly associated windows file like .vbs or .doc.
( although I wonder why its can't be assocaited as such,
(thats too much detail at the moment) )

All localhost is (for me) local disked based as in located on local hard
drive.
Specifically C:\Inetpub\wwwroot.
We're just executing thru - what ? - iis and front page server extensions ?

Perhaps its just that .asp is associated with Front Page instead of IIS?
(another rabbit hole to get lost in chasing up answers)

I've lowered the security on my server to Low - IIS Page and its executing
properly on my localhost now.

Again, too much detail to chase up what this does to my local security.

I'd prefer to be spending all this time on developing a nice web site... ;)

All the best to all those replying to my questions and all those trying sort
these issues out...
