how do I get the Object Action to Play in PowerPoint to work?

When I try to add a video to a slide, the "Object Action" selection under the
MultiMedia Tab is grayed so that I cannot click on it to tell the video to
play. What am I doing wrong?

I was going through "insert", "movies and sound", "movie from file". Any
ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Also, I'm using PowerPoint 2000. And the video I'm trying to insert is one
that came free with my "Cutting Edge PowerPoint for Dummies" book.
