How do I get the spacing I want?

Sorry I'm a novice here.

I've made a 17 row, 7 column table. The first column a longer amount of
space is needed. But the last 6 columns I want to have the EXACT same
spacing between them. I can get it close manually, but like I said, I'd
rather just have it exact. I've also been playing around with cell
properties but when I do that, it just messes up one of the other columns
once I get to the end of that.

So how do I get my last 6 columns to have the exact same spacing without
messing with the 1st column?

create your 17x7 table. Use the TABLE menu in FrontPage and select insert
then table.

set the size of the table you need, in the ROWS and COLUMNS

BUT remove the ticks in the 'specify width' and 'specify height'

then hit OK.

now enlarge the table by click the corner of the tables and drag it to the
right hand side. and then enlarge the first table.

DONE :)

Here is the way I do it. Assuming the border of each cell is 1 pixel.

insert the table with the 17 rows and 7 columns with the table set to
the overall width you want it to be, then set the 1st cell in the 1st
row to the width you want it to be. Subtract that width less 8 (the
width of the lines between the columns (includes the one on each
edge)) and then divide what's left by 6. It has to come out to an even
number. Adjust column 1 to get the even number. Now, go across the top
row and set that width to each cell.

As another example:
table width 760 pixels
1st column 152 pixels
leaves 608 pixels
less the divide 8 pixels
leaves 600 pixels, or 100 per column.

also if you are changing the other table boxes height and width, all you do
is set the first column, row. to the size you need so your text fits.

then select the other boxes of your table that are to be the same size in
height and width, now click the TABLE menu in FrontPage. and select both the
distribute rows and columns evenly to make them all the same size.

much easier than trying to work it out on paper or with the use of a
calculator !!!

I guess that you really are talking about the width of the columns, not
the spacing between them, right?
Say you want the first to take up 40% of the total width you set it to
that. You then have 60 percent leftover, this you divide by 6 to give
10% for each of the other columns in the table.
In short, you can use any width you want, just make sure the widths of
all columns add up to 100%.
