How do I insert an EPS file and retain original quality?

I'm trying to insert an EPS or a PDF file of a newsletter masthead into my
publication. When I try the EPS file, it does not insert correctly and I have
to resize it, causing the image to have black diagonal slashes through it on
screen and when it prints. The PDF file also has to be resized, which causes
the image to look like a bitmap image and absolutely awful.

Can anyone help?

Have you considered doing a screen capture and inserting it as, say, a jpg.?

You have to keep the aspect ratio the same as the original, it that doesn't
work you need to edit the image files outside of Publisher.

When inserting a pdf you'll see diagonal black lines until you close the
source of the pdf. Personally, I've not had real good luck with inserting
pdfs directly or as objects, I usually export them from Acrobat (pro) as a
..tiff then insert them into Pub.

Doesn't it make a difference if the .eps has a .tiff or a .wmf header? I use
..eps images all the time in Publisher but most times the ones I use have a .wmf
header. There are Knowledge Base articles that discusses this. For example

Lists of difference between EPS files and PostScript print files

This may answer the original question
Streaking and banding appears on the printed page when you print a publication
in Publisher 2003 and in Publisher 2007

oh, I missed the "when it prints" part!

Actually, I've never had problem inserting a eps unless the file sucked to
begin with
