How do I insert form fields in Word, specifically a drop down box?

I have inserted the box using the directions in the help section, but when I
try locking the form to test the box, there is no drop down option- it just
fills in the first option on the list. Does anyone have any insight as to
what am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

Did you use the dropdown field from the Forms toolbar or did you use the
Combo box control from the Control Toolbox? For a protected form you want
the one from the Forms toolbar. Right-click your toolbar area and click
"Forms". Make sure your document is unprotected. place your cursor where
you want to insert the dropdown box and click the icon on the Forms toolbar.
Double-click the gray field that got inserted to access the properties.
Type in your desired items and click "Add". When done, click "OK to close
out. protect your form by clicking the "Lock" icon on the Forms toolbar.
Try it out now.

Thank you for responding, Bill. That is what I did, and was able to edit the
properties successfully. However, when I lock the form, there is no option
to select (this is for a courtesy title field), and "Mr.", which is the first
option on my list, automatically fills in for that space. There is no
drop-down option to select "Ms., Miss," or the other options on the list that
I filled in on the properties. Am I missing something very basic?

The actual dropdown does not appear until the form is locked. Guess you
found it!
