How do I insert my icon into the "root directory"

N

Niagara Mouse

I have tried to find this answer everywhere. All the answers say the same
thing - to put the icon into the "root directory", but no one describes how
to actually do that. I have tried to figure it out and cannot. I have
created an icon and named it 'favicon.ico'. Where is the root directory and
how do I get that file into it? Please, someone describe step by step how to
put it there. Thank you, from extremely frustrated NM

The root directory is the set of main files under your web site, the one
that has the home page in it. Import the favicon into the root then publish
your site.

Thank you Tom,
When I open my website in FP under the tab that says Web Site it lists my
folders and pages, i.e. index.htm, faq.htm, etc. I have my 'favicon.ico'
saved in that list but it does not show up in front of my URL when I open my
website from the internet. I assumed that it must not be in the right place.

From what you describe that is supposed to work but it doesn't. I have the
file named favicon.ico (that is the exact file name nothing before, nothing
after) should there be more to it? do I need to put something in the header
of my index.htm? Am I missing something?

You also have to save your web site front page in your favorites file. And
when you clear your cache, the favicon will disappear and you have to save
it again.

Hi again Corey Bryant,
As I previously said I went to the site you suggested and downloaded the
information and put into my header of my index.htm. It now shows up when I
open my home page and save it to Favorites, thank you. It does not however
work in the other pages even though I copied the same line into the header of
each page. Any ideas?
