How do I insert (or type) a roman numeral in a sentence using Mic.

I am doing medical transcription and need to know how to type a roman numeral
five. I don't just want the V but would like to show the line above and
below the V. Does anyone know how to do this in word? Is it even possible?

You could approximate the appearance you want by underlining the V and
adding an overbar (see http://home.earthlink.net/~wordfaqs/Overbar.htm).
Save the resulting composite as an AutoText or AutoCorrect entry.
