How do I install Office 97 on a new computer? It won't allow me

I have an Office 97 CD that I purchased in 2002. I had it installed on my
old computer, but when I tried to install it on my new computer it told me
that it was not valid. I have the original packaging with the product key,
but it will not work.
I wanted to install it so that I could just purchase an upgrade to Office
2003 rather than spending a lot more money on the full Office 2003 program.

IIRC you do not have to install the 97 program to use the upgrade to 2003.
When you start the installation of 2003 it will not find a qualifying
product installed and ask you for the installation CD of 97. BTW, 97 should
install without any problem. I have successfully installed 97 on many
different XP systems. Are you sure you typed the key in correctly.
