How do I merge two separate pictures to make one in Publisher

I have two .jpg pictures that I want to merge into one picture,
using Microsoft Office XP, onto a Publisher page.

please help...

right now, there is a line between the two "merged" pictures.

Use a graphics editing program and then insert the resulting picture into
Publisher.
