How do I place shortcut on Taskbar for Desktop?

At one time I could go direct to desktop from the taskbar, but have lost the
capability and do not remember how to reestablish it. Can anyone give me
directions, please?

I have MS Explorer 6 and Windows XP. I was able to establish the icon on
Desktop and moved it to Taskbar but it does not function. Any idea what i
might be doing wrong?

Go down to line 61, right hand side.

If no good, then please try a post to an XP group.
